Hello tech community of Montreal. My name is Felipe Coimbra and I’m moving to Montreal on September 1st. I noticed we didn’t have a Montreal NewTech Meetup group yet, but there are a lot going on in the startup scene over there.
I decided to start this meetup because I was an active member of the Silicon Valley NewTech, SF NewTech and Boulder NewTech and I think it’s a great way for us to network as well as to share with other tech centers what we’re doing in Montreal.
I want this site and the Montreal NewTech meetup events to be used by all of us as resources to share our ideas, products, ask for help, find jobs, meet other tech enthusiasts, form partnerships, etc.
If you want to get involved, post your event, or have anything else you think the Montreal Tech community should know, please send me an email.
For those of you who are not familiar with the NewTech meetups format, please see what to expect here.
We’ll do the first official Montreal NewTech meetup on October 7th, as I won’t have enough time to put it all together for September 2nd.
However, if you don’t have any plans for September 2nd, we could make the first one a “Startup Drinks” style meetup. The best beer I have ever had was from Brutopia, so let’s meet there for Happy Hour at 7pm.

Welcome to Montreal, Felipe. It’s a good idea to join the new tech business crowd of this city and we’ll be happy to have you here.
However, why don’t you start smelling the air first before trying to make the headlines? There are already so many tech-, startup- and/or Web-related meetings in Montreal that they don’t fit anymore in my agenda.
Just Google some of these: Yulblog, Yulbiz, BarCampMontreal, Montreal Tech Entrepreneur Breakfast, StartupDrinks, MontrealOnRails, TechnoMontreal 5 a 7, StartupDrinks, W3Quebec, Third Tuesday Montreal, Podcamp Montreal, Linux Meetup, Ile Sans Fil, etc.
What do you think you have to offer that we don’t already have designed our own way here? And why the hell should we do it your way instead?!?

Hey Christian,
I did search for some tech networking events in Montreal and I did find some of the ones you mentioned (not all… that’s great, we have so many!). My intention isn’t to substitute any of the other events or to make news, but the idea behind the Montreal NewTech is to add to the startup scene there, and connect it with the other events (that’s why I have a section to announce any other tech event there). Sorry if you got a different idea.
One of the main advantage of the NewTech Meetup is that we can not only connect locally, but tie the Montreal startups with the other NewTech meetups in the US and get more exposure to what’s happening over there.
Again, sorry this came out the wrong way. I hope to meet you and work together to grow the Montreal tech community. If you want to get involved, I’d be more than happy to use the help.
I’ll check the other events out and link to them and make sure there isn’t any dates overlap.
